Old Lathrisk

 Welcome to Well-being
ABOUT

ABOUT

The Studio is a unique self contained, self catering holiday apartment on the ground floor of 16th century country house Old Lathrisk, sleeping 2 guests.  The large and interesting garden is open for guests to wander around and find quiet places for reflection. We encourage visits to the local historic village of Falkland with its Palace, cafes, gift shops and to Falkland Estate for walks, followed by tea and scones at the award winning Pillars of Hercules Organic Cafe.

Katie and Chris Fusaro are the current owners of Old Lathrisk, having bought the family home from Katie's parents Jo and Mike Aitken. Chris, recently retired from playing professional rugby with Glasgow Warriors, has now joined his family's award winning food and drinks business Luvians.

Jo and Mike now live in the Vaults in a separate part of the ground floor. This 16th century country house near Falkland in Fife, has been home to the family since 1970, when David and Morag Wood bought the older half of Lathrisk House from Logan Pattullo. However there is a much longer family connection with this area. On his return from the Crimean War, Katie's Great Great Great Grandfather, Major William Wood lived in Falkland Palace with his wife Jane and their 10 children.  Old Lathrisk is a tranquil, countryside retreat in stunning grounds and we would love to have you share our beautiful home and garden.

We are happy to give advice on places of interest, activities in the area and Scotland in general. Our hope for the future of Old Lathrisk is that it will remain a place of well being and attract like minded souls to benefit from this special place we are lucky enough to call home.

EVENTS & ACTIVITIES

Current Events at Old Lathrisk

Mindfulness for Life with Jo Aitken and Wendy Simpson - Postponed until further notice due to current restrictions. This course is currently under review and we may consider leading full day retreats as an alternative.

8 x Fridays 1.30-4.00pm.  £160

This is a small group course to help you incorporate mindfulness into your daily life, to reduce striving and develop a deepening sense of gratitude.

We will facilitate an established course, called Mindfulness for Life, an in-depth introduction to mindfulness which is designed to empower you to develop a nourishing and resilient personal mindfulness practice. You will receive a personal manual to help guide you through the course and remind you of the concepts and practices. You will be invited to take part in all the standard mindful practices which you will be able to continue doing at home.  We will also introduce some activities and videos to encourage personal reflection and will have plenty time for group discussions. We will have a break for a cuppa and chat in the middle of each session. Some of the feedback from our previous participants:

'It has been such a tonic retreating to your quiet idyll'

'Thank you for introducing me to the wonderful world of mindfulness...I'm glad and grateful to you and Wendy for your gentle support and encouragement'

'I was amazed at how relaxed and safe I felt within the group.  There was no pressure to share or to speak unless we wanted to.  Everyone conducted themselves in a non-judgemental, respectful way and allowed each other time to speak.  I really liked the structure of the course and the relaxing sounds of the sound bowl, the crackle of the fire and the birds during the meditations.'

This course is very popular so please get in touch if you wish to attend. To book your place, payment for the 8 week course can be made in advance by contacting  jo@oldlathrisk.co.uk or 07843 419946.

GUEST REVIEW

The studio, was beautiful as was the garden. The hosts were absolutely excellent and couldn’t do enough to make you welcome. We spent 2 nights there as we got married and the wee touches with bottles of Prosecco, homemade cake , groceries for breakfast, just married signs and right down to turning the bed covers over on our wedding night made our stay so much more special . Thank you so much again
